TCCBC Gala

TCCBC celebrates its 18th annualversity and thrown Annual Gala on May 29. Chair Chang mentioned :"It's her and TCCBC's great honour to have Taiwanese Ambassador Dr. Lee with us tonight. " During Chair Chang's term, he helped TCCBC host first lady Mrs. Ma and introduce business connections .Again, she appreciates his attendance and look forward to cooperate with him again in the coming future.

TCCBC Visits China Airlines

On April 22, Taiwan Chamber of Commerce visited China Airlines to congratulate and Mr. Eddie Yeh, new General Manager for Canada Branch. The aims of this visit were to welcome Mr. Eddie Yeh and also to thank China Airlines for its continuous support to TCCBC. TCCBC always has a well-maintained relationship with China Airlines. Both TCCBC and China Airlines are looking forward to more future collaboration.

HESS Education Canada Visits TCCBC
On April 1st, 2010, HESS Education Canada became a new member of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in BC. President Chang was delighted to meet with HESS Education Canada. During the meeting, HESS Education Canada expressed their gratuity and enthusiasm to be part of TCCBC. Both President Chang and HESS hope that TCCBC will help HESS expend its business scoop. At the end of meeting, President Chang gave TCCBC certificated flag to HESS to welcome HESS to this big family.

Meeting with Mr. Wu from ACSEA
On March 26, 2010, Managing Director, Charlie Wu from Asian-Canadian Special Event Association came to visit President Chang at Taiwan Chamber of Commerce office. The aim of this meeting was to discuss the potential for TCCBC hosting a tradeshow at Taiwanese Cultural Festival in the future. President Chang expressed her optimism towards this potential collaboration. Both President Chang and Mr. Wu hope that this potential collaboration will create more business opportunities for TCCBC members.

TCCBC Chinese New Year Celebration Event
On February 21st 2010, Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in BC held its Chinese New Year Celebration Event at Richmond Radisson Hotel. Many VIP guests: Director General Chou from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver, Honorable M.P. Ujjal Dosanjh, M.P. Andrew Saxton, MLA Sue Hammel, MLA Richard Lee, MLA Bruce Ralsto, MLA Linda Reid, MLA John Yap, Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie, Vancouver Councillor Suzanne Anton, Vancouver Councillor George Chow, Burnaby Councillor Anne Kang, Lee Egan from Burnaby Board of Trade and Mr. Joe Peschisolido were invited to join this event.
Director Scott Yang from Taiwan Trade Center Vancouver, Deputy Director Chuang from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver, various leaders from Southeast Asia Associations and many former TCCBC Presidents also invited to come to our event. President Chang and many VIP guests were delighted to give speeches and wish everyone Happy Chinese New Year and all the best in the Year of Tiger. VIP guests were handling out red pockets which symbolize good luck to all attendees, followed by the Lucky Draw which was the highlight of the event. President Chang and all directors of TCCBC thanked everyone’s attendee and appreciated everyone’s support. President Chang hopes to see everyone again at TCCBC Annual Gala on May 29, 2010. A group picture was taken at the end to memorize this wonderful event.

Commissioner Kang visited Taiwan Chamber of Commerce
On January 29, Commissioner Kang visited Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in BC to discuss about Taiwanese Heritage Festival with President Chang. Taiwanese Heritage Festival will take place on March 13, 2010. Taiwan Chamber of Commerce will participate in this tradeshow with the aim to provide business opportunities for our members.

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Chinese Family Association 16th Annual Party
On January 23rd, President Christina Chang of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in British Columbia attended The 16th Annual Party held by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Chinese Family Association at Radisson President Hotel in Richmond.
Many TCCBC directors and former President Daphne Wu attended this Annual Party as well. TCCBC members had the chance to socialize with others and everyone’s participation has put a joyful ending to the party.

The 7th TYPEABC Mentorship Program

The Mentorship Program has reached its 7th year under the collaboration of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in BC and TYPEABC. This year, Mentorship Program organizes a series of business seminars and corporate visits.
The aim of Mentorship Program is to encourage young Taiwanese people to commence their own business in Canada and further to stabilize in the mainstream society.

One January 7th, the Opening Ceremony of 7th Mentorship Program took place at Walton College in Richmond. Many VIP guests such as Director Karen Wang from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver, Commissioner Jacob Lai and former President Alex Fan have come to demonstrate their supports. President Christina Chang of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in BC and former President David Lin were invited as guest speakers to the first seminar. The topic was on ‘How to find your own interests and further develop them into business.’ President Chang and former President Lin have shared their own valuable experiences with audiences and provided some insightful advises.
Many young professionals were attracted by the curriculum of this Mentorship Program. There were 105 young professionals attended the ceremony. The 7th Mentorship Program is a four-month event and every seminar will invite various mentors from different industries to share their valuable experiences. We believe that this Mentorship Program will enhance young professionals’ insights regarding beginning their own business.

President Chang Attended TESTT 2010 Gala
On January 9th, President Christina Chang of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in British Columbia attended the 2010 Gala held by Taiwan Entrepreneurs Society Taipei / Toronto.

Many VIP guests such as Mr. David Lee from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada; Director General Wang and Director Myra Wu from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto; Executive Director Kevin Wei from Taiwan Trade Center in Toronto; President Andrew Fang from Taiwan Entrepreneurs & Investors Association of Canada; President Kirk Lin from The Taiwan Merchants Association of Toronto; President Cindy Fan from Taiwan Entrepreneurs Society Taipei / Toronto and our former President Daphne Wu attended this Gala as well.

President Chang has sincerely invited every VIP guests to attend TCCBC Global Friendship Invitational 2010 and Annual Gala Dinner in May. Many VIP guests confirmed their attendances and expressed their enthusiasms about participating in TCCBC events. The confirmed attendances of VIP guests have elevated the anticipation for TCCBC's upcoming major events.

TCCBC Christmas Party 2009
TCCBC 2009 Christmas Party was held at Shiang Garden in Richmond on December 18, 2009 (Fri) starting 7pm. Many honorable guests were invited as VIP, including MLA Alice Wong, Director General Chou, Ms. Karen Wang, Ms. Sophia Chuang of TECO Vancouver, and Mr. Scott Yang of Taiwan Trade Centre. Excellent performances, such as Chinese zither solo, saxophone duet, Samba and Rumba, were brought by talented performers.

Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in BC appreciates the support from all members and always welcomes new addition to our big family. President Chang welcomed the new members and conferred their membership status by presenting them with TCCBC pin and pendant.
The main highlight of the night was gift exchange. Each person was given a red envelope which consists of a piece of paper with a word printed on it and each guest needed to find the other person whose red envelope consists of the matching pair to exchange the gift with. The guest who had the best costume of the night was given a special prize prepared by Director General Chou. The fun continued till almost midnight. President Chang announced that the Gala Dinner of 2010 will be held on May 29th and she hopes to see everyone again!

Seminar II : Do Not Let Your Right Slip Away

On November 8th at 2:00 PM, TCCBC held the lecture series “Don’t Let Your Rights Slip Away” in the Shiang Garden Restaurant. TCCBC invited six experts for this topic: director Karen Wang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver, Ms. Phyllis Wong of the Canada Border Services Agency, Mr. Dean Hsieh and Mr. Francis Chen of the Canadian Chinese Consumers Association (BC), Mr. Jeff Lin of the Tapioca Express and Mr. Michael Hsieh of the Royal Pacific Realty.

The six experts opened up the event with a self-introduction of themselves and their expert field, then allotted some time for a questions and answers period. The lecture touched upon topics such as the consumer’s rights, how to deal with customs officials, education and loaning system for expatriates, house inspections and the rights of restaurant owners. The enlightening and cohesive environment provided for a successful lecture series.

On October 18th, Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce held its first member networking activity at the Shiang Garden Restaurant. This allowed all members and non-members to exchange business information and create job opportunities for each other. The event had the following:

TCCBC Board Members Annual Visit
On September 9th, President Chan and the board members of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce visited five different major companies. First, they visited Director General Matthew W. Chou of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Vancouver. Then, they saw Director Scott Yang of Taiwan External Trade Development Council.Afterward, they greeted Ken Chung, the general manager of EVA Air.

Later, They met with Simon Lee, the general manager of China Airlines. Finally, they consulted President Richard Lin of the World Journal News.

diamTCCBC One Day Trip To Hope Town

On Father’s Day, August 8th, the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce went to Hope and toured the river valleys, tunnels and leisure sidewalks. The scenery was beautiful and the weather was very accommodating. All the members had a lot of fun. Gifts were prepared for all the father’s that went on the trip.

Seminar I 'How to Earn Money in Canada'
On Sunday July 26th, we held our first seminar titled “How to Earn Money in Canada” and invited six key-note speakers. The six speakers identified the following areas for consideration:
A. Cost of starting a business.
B. Place of company and number of patrons.
C. Where to get the material, cost of the
material and any legal concerns regarding the material needed.
D. Sales and advertisement rules.
E. Tax Avoidance.
F. How to borrow money.
G. Exporting and importing products with relations to the government.
H. The past and future of the industry.
.I.
Strategy for ensuring the placement of the product.
The key difference between service industry and product industry must be noted. The seminar suggested consulting with one of the experts first before going ahead to prevent unnecessary risks.

President Chang's Inauguration Party
On July 17th, Deputy Kao officially witnesses Miss Daphne Wu transferred her position as the President of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce over to President Chang. Deputy Kao had been a dedicated member to the TCCBC for 6 years and will now be continuing his career back in Taiwan. The inauguration banquet included a group song of “Friends” as well as Deputy Kao delivering an eloquent speech about living in Vancouver as a Taiwanese all these years. We wish Deputy Kao the best of luck in the future.
