Protest letter to Air Canada

Dear esteemed Air Canada Management Team,

Thank you for the sponsorship support of our recent 26th Annual Gala event on May 12, 2018. The Taiwanese business community and Air Canada has a long history of strong relationship and with the expanded flight to Taipei starting this month, this tie will only grow stronger and we are excited to promote Air Canada within our business community.

However, it has come to our attention that Taiwan destinations such as Taipei (TPE) are listed as in the country “China” and/or “CN” on the Air Canada website (screenshot attached). This is not correct, and misleading to travelers. Although officially Taiwan is the Republic of China, however as a separate political entity it is internationally referring to as TW, TWN or just TAIWAN. The “T” in TPE is signal to the fact, assigned by IATA.

We know Air Canada treats passenger safety as its Number 1 priority. That is why we believe it would take the necessary steps to correct this oversight to improve safety and reduce confusion. If there is anything we can assist with, please let us know. We look forward to a great year with Air Canada and the Taiwanese business travelers community and many more years of cooperation to come.

With Most Regards,

Charles Chang
President
Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in British Columbia
